Fishing Report 21/01/09
* whiting are being caught on pippies and fresh worms at Tailor Bight and the deeper gutters along the Eastern Beach
* bream and tarwine at the Coffee Rocks, and also off the rocks at North Point
* mackerel and cobia available on the Western side of the Island around the pylons and deeper holes
Fraser Island
* few small chopper tailor on dusk at Indian Head and Waddy Point
* whiting in deeper beach gutters on the East Coast
* mangrove jack in smaller creeks on West Coast
Beach conditions are good at the moment, and with low tides in the middle of the day it makes travelling much safer and easier. Inland Road at Fraser Island is in a very bad state at the moment, with lots of dust and corrugations. Also very bad for tyres and brakes! School holidays finish this week, and once the Australia Day long weekend is over things will get much quieter.

Moreton Island Brown Snake
Here is the picture of the brown snake we saw today on Moreton Island.
We looked it up in an AU wildlife book and it look most like a Eastern Brown.
It's a bit grainy...I was in digital zoom on the camera.
Please let us know what it is if you find out from the snake expert.
Thanks again for a great tour,
Jon Elliott

TURTLE NEST ON MORETON ISLAND SURF BEACH
A 4WD Adventure day out. We first sailed out of the mouth of the Brisbane river passes Moreton Bay Islands across Moreton Bay Marine Park.Ray our guide took time to spot a school of dolphins, a few tuna fish, and a small sea turtle. We arrived at Moreton Island's famous west coast shipwrecks. The 3 level ferry allowed for great photo's. We landed on the west coast of Moreton Island National and a Sandy Beach – the world's second largest sand island. Our guide for the day Ray, told us stories through out the day, nature and wildlife everywhere. the group was great, we first started with a 4WD to the desert, pass beautiful wildflowers and birdlife to remote sand hills. Ray again help with all the equipment. Great hike to the sandhills. Take a sand hill at speed or try a gentle slop (speeds up to 65kms an hour). This area is great for walks and hikes, as the trail always with fresh sands. After this adventure head to the eastern surf beach of Moreton Island. Onto Blue Lagoon, a short coastal forest walk to the sand filtered fresh waters We had time to relax, swim, photo, snorkel. AFter a great lunch with cold drinks and fresh breads and fruits.
We were 4WDiving along the surf beach, when Ray Showed us the Turtle Nest, It was great to see nature still surving.
